All You Need to Know About Seekho Aur Kamao Scheme

“Empowerment of Minorities” for 12th Five Year Plan, Ministry of Minority Affairs proposes “

Seekho Aur kamao (Learn and Earn)”, a new 100% Central Sector Scheme for “Skill Development of Minorities” to be implemented from the financial year 2013-14 onwards.

The main idea behind such a scheme was to have a better approach towards dealing with the minority communities in India. These communities often lack a fair amount of representation within the country. The MOMA was established to ensure that minorities like Muslims, Sikhs, Jains, Christians, and Zoroastrians get equal access to resources in the Indian society. Linguistic minorities are included in the scheme as well.

The scheme aims at upgrading the skills of minority youth in various modern/traditional skills depending upon their qualification, present economic trends and market potential, which can earn them suitable employment or make them suitably skilled to go for self-employment. Along with this, they are given the chance to learn any skills that may interest them. This ensures that they have a better chance of getting employed as one is more successful if they choose a field of their liking.

To be eligible for this scheme one has to be a citizen of the country and between the ages of 14-35, with the minimum qualification of trainee should be at least Class V, as a large number of young and motivated people from the minority communities of India suffer from unemployment due to a lack of training and resources.

AISECT has been partnered with MOMA since 2013 and some of the schemes that we are implementing are as follows:

  • Nai Roshni “The Scheme for Leadership Development of Minority Women”

  • Seekho Aur Kamao

  • AISECT has trained 2000+ Candidates through various scheme of MOMA

‘Seekho Aur Kamao’, Ministry of Minority Affairs is the skill development initiative for minorities. Here are some of the basic objectives of the scheme.

  1. To bring down unemployment rate of minorities during 12th Plan period.

  2. To conserve and update traditional skills of minorities and establish their linkages with market.

  3. To improve employability of existing workers, school dropouts etc. and ensure their placement.

  4. To generate means of better livelihood for marginalized minorities and bring them in the mainstream.

  5. To enable minorities to avail opportunities in the growing market.

  6. To develop potential human resource for the country.

A large pool of motivated individuals fail to get employed due to a lack of resources. This is a waste since these individuals have dreams and aspirations of their own. Moreover, they are highly skilled and driven. By providing them with training and resources, AISECT helps them achieve their dreams and ensuring they have employment opportunities after the training. The training programs are made in such a way that they would help the individuals get a job right after the training. The training programs can be both technical and non-technical. Along with this, basic IT, linguistic and soft skills are taught to the individuals to make sure they are successful in their endeavours. The program ensures that more than 75% of the enrolled individuals go on to find a job later on in life. AISECT also ensures that the individuals remain motivated till they get a job.  Over 20,000 people have received training from AISECT so far and this number is increasing as the years to go.
